ASCII vs. HTML

EDGAR I - ASCII

ASCII (EDGAR I) is the original filing format for the EDGAR system. ASCII utilizes a standardized format of Courier Font, 80 characters wide for text and 132 characters wide for tables. ASCII filings do not retain font styles, font size, color or images. Due to the maximum characters permitted per line, much of the text and table alignment will differ from the original source. ASCII is the the most economical and quickest way to process a document for submission.

EDGAR II - HTML

With the introduction of EDGAR II, and the options available through HTML, you now have more control over the way your EDGAR filings look. HTML offers a much wider range of options and allows documents filed via EDGAR to retain a format much closer to the original. Color, bold, italics, underlining, graphics and linking are just some of the options available.
